Nightmares of The Sun is a progressive, heavy yet melodic descent into cosmic dread. Fusing crushing riffs with haunting melody, the music unfolds like a retro sci-fi soundtrack... vast, cinematic, and unsettling.

From the debut album Sol to the new single Inertia, Nightmares of The Sun builds soundscapes where melody and menace collide, telling a story of the bizarre, the cosmic, and the terrifying.

New single ‘Inertia’ out now

‘Inertia’ picks up where ‘Sol’ left off. Drifting toward a glimpsed horror, will a moment of clarity be what you need to avoid the inevitable?

Inertia is the long gestating follow up to the Nightmares of The Sun debut album. Expanding on the themes of ‘Sol,’ it deepens the tension, unease, and heaviness while weaving in new melodies. It’s the first in a series of songs that continues the Nightmares of the Sun story.

Inertia was written, produced, mixed and mastered by Luke Maxwell Johnson

A prime example of prog rock done right and not a hint of egocentric, music wankery in the slightest.

I really like this! Even though it’s completly instrumental you can really feel the story telling

Where to find Nightmares of The Sun

Who are Nightmares of The Sun?

From musician Luke Maxwell Johnson Nightmares of The Sun applies the heaviest and most melodic elements of progressive metal to create an instrumental journey with a retro sci-fi inspired concept.

The first single, Approach of The Epoch, was released in May 2019, a mixture of huge tuned down metal riffs and clean melodic passages. It was followed by Visions of Helios in June 2019, these two songs helped get the word out for the July 2019 release of the debut album Sol.

After a multi-year hiatus 2025 sees the return of Nightmares of The Sun with a new single Inertia.
